Prime Minister Viktor Orban spoke at the consecration of a Reformed church in Budapest’s District XX on Sunday.
Christian culture is the source of all strength, Orban said.
Many, today, question or openly reject the notion that Europe’s fate is intertwined with Christianity, “but we Hungarians believe that Christian culture…is the cornerstone that holds the architecture of European civilisation in place”, he said.
“Without [Christian culture], there is no freedom and no European life,” he added.
Construction of the church in Klapka Square began in 1939 but was interrupted by WWII. It continued in 2017 with contribution of the government and the local district to the 375 million forint (EUR 1.2m) cost of the project.
