“When your closest allies and friends turn their back on you it’s time to stop and think,” Jobbik’s executive vice-president Marton Gyongyosi tweeted in reply on Saturday to Judit Varga, the state secretary for EU relations.
Earlier, Varga tweeted that EPP Spitzenkandidat Manfred Weber had “insulted the Hungarian voters” when he told ZDF that he wouldn’t accept his mandate as head of the European Commission if it depended on Fidesz’s votes.
“The problem is Fidesz and Orban, and the deconstruction of democracy, nothing else,” Gyongyosi – who heads the EP list of Hungary’s strongest opposition party – continued, referring to the suspension of Fidesz’s membership in the European People’s Party. Reacting to Varga’s remark about Hungarian voters, he wrote that “no, the people and the party are not the same entities, Communism is over”.
