The Spitzenkandidat of the European Socialists (PES), Frans Timmermans attends the party congress of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) on Saturday, Hungarian media reported.
According to daily Nepszava, the Socialists will vote about their programme and candidate list for the European elections. Their current MEP’s Istvan Ujhelyi and Tibor Szanyi are expected to lead the list.
The deputy group leader of Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party, Laszlo Borocz accused the Socialists of “cementing their alliance with the leading candidate on George Soros’s list”. According to the politician, Timmermans is the billionaire’s closest confidant, and they are ready to resettle migrant into Europe.
According to a survey conducted by the Szazadveg Foundation, the vast majority – 81 percent – of all Hungarian voters and 69 percent of MSZP voters rejected the resettlement quotas which are, as the think tank writes, a significant part of Timmermans’s migration policy. Neither of the Hungarian opposition parties which are planning to co-operate against the government are in favour of mass immigration.
