In a letter to Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, Hungary’s honorary consul in Trondheim, Eszter Vanky wrote that she’s been worried about among other things the state of democracy in Hungary and she decided to resign from her post.
According to the letter obtained by Hungarian news site Valasz Online, she’s been witnessing over the past years that Hungary’s government has been more and more going off the road of liberal democracy, turned the public media into a mouthpiece of the government, undermined independent press and radio which has been critical towards the government, helped the excessive enrichment of its allies with needless investments, turned Hungary into a country of corruption and nepotism.
Vanky told Valasz Online that she thinks the basic foundations of a healthy democracy are missing in the country.
