The status quo is going to change after the European elections in May 2019, MEP of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), Georg Mayer told Hungarian daily Magyar Hirlap. The Austrian politician rejected both the Sargentini report and the proposal about the humanitarian visa.
According to Mayer, left-liberal parties of the European Parliament want to meddle in Hungary’s affairs, even when it’s about national competences. He compared to the debate about Sargentini report to a “witch trial”, reminding that FPÖ delegation leader Harald Vilimsky called Viktor Orban Europe’s hero because he was the only European leader to respected the common rules in 2015.
Mayer agreed that the left-liberal forces of the European Parliament are afraid from the upcoming elections so they are in a rush to force through their pro-migration proposals. He said the votes were against the rules about both the Sargentini report and the humanitarian visa.
