Hungarian MPs to vote on rejecting Sargentini report in Oct

A government proposal to reject the Sargentini report is scheduled to be submitted to parliament early in the second week of October, daily Magyar Idok said on Wednesday.

The paper noted that Prime Minister Viktor Orban had welcomed in a letter the support of MEPs who expressed support for national sovereignty by backing Hungary in the European parliamentary vote on the report by Dutch Green MEP Judith Sargentini.

Parliament’s justice committee yesterday voted to approve a proposal to debate a resolution responding to the Sargentini report’s condemnation of Hungary. The proposed resolution also motions to reject the abolition of national border policing.

The paper noted that non-government committee member Dora Duro backed the proposal for a debate on the resolution. The independent who represents Mi Hazank Mozgalom is the only opposition politician to reject the Sargentini report, it added.
