Developments in Hungary should be recognised, the Austrian Freedom Party’s (FPÖ) group leader, Johann Gudenus told Hungarian public news channel M1. He stressed that his party strongly denounces the European Parliament’s report about Hungary and the procedure against the country.
According to Gudenus, Hungary is an important partner of Austria, the two countries have serious historical traditions and a strong friendship. He criticised the Sargentini report and questioned the EP’s way of accepting the document. As we have reported before, the Hungarian government considers the vote illegitimate, because abstentions weren’t counted. FPÖ president and Austria’s vice-chancellor, Heinz-Christian Strache has also questioned the result of the vote.
Gudenus said that Hungary has been handling migration with responsibility, protected the EU’s external border, while the EU disregarded its own rules and denounced Hungary. The politician called the EU’s open-doors migration policy irresponsible.
