Nicolas Bay, the shadow rapporteur of the LIBE report about Hungary, heavily criticised Judith Sargentini (Greens/EFA) in an interview with the Hungarian public news channel, M1.
“The goal of the Sargentini report is to lead a political fight against Viktor Orban, because the Hungarian prime minister doesn’t submit to the dictates of the European Commission, he doesn’t accept the dangerous plan of relocating migrants in Europe, and he refuses to let Brussels bureaucrats to decide what heppens in Hungary,”
the French National Rally’s secretary general stressed.
Bay said that Sargentini has been having a ready concept since the beginning of her task, she was working on an ideological basis and her sole goal was to criticise and demonise Viktor Orban. “She only wanted to attack and never ever tried to understand the Hungarians,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hungarian state secretary for EU affairs Judit Varga also slammed Sargentini’s report. In a Facebook post – see below – she writes that “Sargentini’s stance on border protection and tackling illegal migration goes against/runs counter to not only the European Council but the expectations of European citizens as well. This will eventually trigger mistrust and polarization and as such rarely helps solve the challenges facing the Union”.
