Hungarian House Speaker Laszlo Kover has expressed his sympathies to the families of victims of the forest fires ravaging Greece since Monday, in a letter sent to his Greek counterpart Nikolaos Voutsis, the speaker’s office said in a statement on Thursday.
Kover said he was shocked to learn about the fires, which killed at least 79 and injured 187.
“On behalf of the Hungarian Parliament and myself, I would like to express our sincere condolences over the disaster hitting the Greek nation,”
Kover said. He expressed the conviction that the authorities and humanitarian organisations are providing adequate help to those in trouble, and mitigate the consequences of the catastrophe.
On Wednesday, President Janos Ader also expressed his condolences to Greek counterpart Prokopis Pavlopoulos. In the message forwarded by Ader’s office to MTI, Ader said he was deeply shocked to learn about the natural disaster. On behalf of the Hungarian people, he expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wished quick recovery to those injured. He expressed hope that in the aftermath of the fires, local residents would soon be able to return to their normal lives.
