In an interview with Hungarian news site HVG.hu, Andriana Sukova, Deputy-Director General of the DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission stressed that the next EU budget is not focusing on supporting migration.
She said it’s a fact that the fight against poverty is not a success story in the EU, and the goal of th Europe 2020 strategy – to decrease the number of people living in poverty to 96,1 million – doesn’t seem realistic.
According to Sukova, the EU must integrate those 1,7 million people who have arrived in the EU in the last four years. She stressed that – contrary to what the Hungarian government claims – the next EU budget is not focused on supporting migration, only a small percent of the money is spent on asylum seekers.
