Hungarian daily Nepszava has learnt from Fidesz and governmental sources that German Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to Berlin.
According to the newspaper the exact date of the visit is still unclear, due to the crisis in the German coalition. Nepszava noted that this invitation could mean a significant shift in German-Hungarian relations. According to the newspaper, a Visegrad Four (Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic) – Germany summit planned for last May was cancelled, because the participants couldn’t agree on the agenda.
The idea of another V4-Germany came up right after the Hungarian parliamentary elections in April, but it hasn’t taken place after all, partially because Slovakia – who takes over the Visegrad presidency from July – lobbied for a similar meeting to be held in Bratislava in autumn.
