Hungarian-born assistant secretary of state in the US

The Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate held the hearing of Tibor Peter Nagy Jr. on Thursday.

Nagy is nominated Assistant Secretary of State, responsible for African affairs at the US State Department. As Hungarian journalist Szabolcs Panyi tweeted earlier this week, he is a senior career diplomat who was born in Hungary in 1949, and left the country as a political refugee with his family after 1956.

Hungarian daily Magyar Hirlap reported about the hearing, where Nagy stressed that it’s not enough to fight against terrorism in Africa, living standards also have to be developed.
