Orban govt holds first session

Hungary’s new government held its first session on Friday with Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the chair, the prime minister’s press chief said.

The government passed a decree on its members’ responsibilities and scope of authority, and approved a memorandum on the protection of Transcarpathia Hungarians, Bertalan Havasi said.

The memorandum, to be sent to the prime ministers of all NATO member states and the secretary-general of the military alliance, proposes that Ukraine’s ethnic minorities with ties to NATO countries should be exempted from the Ukrainian laws infringing on minority rights, he said.
