According to BBC’s Newsnight programme, Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party rejects the model of liberal democracy. The programme also reports about the amendment of the higher education law that concerns CEU, the state of the judiciary and the government’s “actions against NGOs”.
Several judges, speaking mostly on condition of anonymity, told BBC that the judiciary is not independent of the government anymore. Peter Szepeshazi said there’s an atmosphere “full of fear”, judges think anything can be done to them.
He said that in several issues – for example, the case of people who have foreign currency debts, migration or when politicians are involved – judges think a certain decision is expected from them.
