The majority of the media in the Netherlands is very biased, very negative towards Hungary, the country ambassador in the Hague, Andras Kocsis told Hungarian daily Magyar Hirlap.
Kocsis said it’s very hard for the Hungarian diplomacy to make their voice heard, because even though the Dutch media claims to be interested in the opinion of all sides, they don’t seem to be interested in Hungary’s.
The ambassador said negative, biased articles are so frequent that they comment only on the most outrageous ones. Kocsis also said he tried to get a letter published in major Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad, but they told him they weren’t interested.
Last week, Kocsis protested after a radio host asked his guest whether she would spit Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban in the face. According to Magyarnieuws, Kocsis wants the Dutch public broadcaster (NPO) to make steps against Eric Smit, who was the host at the ‘Dr Kelder en Co’ programme. “This is rude and shocking,” Kocsis said. In the programme, Smit was talking to Dutch green politician Judith Sargentini, who is the MEP responsible for the report on the situation in Hungary. She didn’t react to Smit’s provocative question.
