Hungarian President Janos Ader and the First Lady, Anita Herczegh, on Friday added their signatures to the Minority SafePack European Citizens’ initiative which seeks European Union protection for indigenous national minorities in the bloc.
The initiative organised by the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) began in April last year, and 1 million signatures must be collected in at least seven EU member states by April 3 for the European Commission to put the scheme on its agenda.
So far 750,000 signatures have been collected across Europe, with around 300,000 added in Hungary, Csongor Csaky, the head of the Rakoczi Association, told reporters.
