Szijjarto: Brexit agreement EU, UK ‘common interest’

An agreement on the conditions of the United Kingdom’s divorce from the EU is the bloc’s and the UK’s common interest, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said after talks held with David Davis, the UK’s secretary of state for exiting the EU.

The foreign ministry’s statement cited Szijjarto as saying that Hungary has a vested interest in protecting the rights of Hungarian citizens living and working in the UK.

The agreement ending the UK’s EU membership has to contain a “very ambitious, deep-reaching and wide-ranging” free trade agreement, Szijjarto said. A comprehensive defense agreement is also necessary, to regulate Britain’s role in EU military missions, which has been significant so far, Szijjarto said.
