NGOs turn to ECHR

Fourteen Hungarian NGOs asked the European Court of Human Rights to declare that the Hungarian NGO legislation harms the fundamental rights of NGOs. The same organisations turned to the Constitutional Court before, reports.
The news site reminds that the Constitutional Court hasn’t put the topic on the agenda for 5 months, but in the meantime the law still obliges “foreign funded” NGOs to register. According to the NGOs the law about the transparency of “foreign funded” NGOs in discriminative and harms the freedom of speech and association.

“Once again, those organisations are shouting who are on George Soros’s payroll”, the ruling Fidesz party reacted in a statement. According to the party, the NGOs use every chance to avoid transparency.
