Navracsics to inform citizens directly

Hungary’s European commissioner, Tibor Navracsics, has said he will be the first commissioner to hold regular meetings with citizens as part of a scheme being set up in Veszprem, in western Hungary.

The commissioner for education, culture, youth and sports said at Wednesday’s opening event in the local centre of the Fidesz ruling party that many people were unaware of what the European Union and the European Commission are about, and he would now have the opportunity to talk to citizens about this.

Referring to the Fidesz centre, he said the “Narancspont” was not only about the election campaign but would also serve as a community space where citizens can discuss problems affecting their everyday lives with local, national and European politicians.
