Hungary govt helps Aleppo Catholics

The Hungarian government is allocating 620 million forints (EUR 1.99m) to fund the education programme of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Aleppo in Syria, the official gazette of the government said.

Christian communities facing persecution in war zones deserve support for their welfare and resettlement in their homelands, the statement said.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Archbishop Jean-Clement Jeanbart held talks earlier in December, agreeing that Hungary would provide funds for the reconstruction of a school destroyed during the hostilities and grant state scholarships to students from the local Christian community to study in Hungary.
