Lazar: A strong Europe can’t be built on weak member states

Protecting and strengthening Hungary’s independence is the most important task of the government, the Minister Heading the Prime Minister’s Office, Janos Lazar said in Echo TV‘s programme on Wednesday.

Lazar stressed that the government wants to protect the country’s sovereignty within the framework of the European Union. According to the Fidesz politician there’s an East-West debate about Europe’s future, and the idea of the United States of Europe is a left-wing idea, but a strong Europe can’t be built on weak nations.

Lazar said that Hungary doesn’t support the idea of the united states of Europe, which would mean the elimination of national sovereignty. The minister pointed out that member states which support strong nation states are under constant pressure.
