Hungary proposes V4 phone donation line

The Visegrad Group is considering a Hungarian proposal to set up a phone donation system for humanitarian aid such as disaster relief, a human resources ministry official said on Thursday.

Hungary has successfully operated a donation line linked to a bank account in cooperation with charities since 2013, and the idea is to extend the model to the V4, Miklos Soltesz, the state secretary for church, minority and civil society relations, said in Prague after discussing the proposal with representatives of the Czech government and civil organisations.

Slovakia has expressed backing for the initiative and the Czech Republic is also “open to further talks” on the matter. Soltesz said he would next travel to Poland to discuss the Hungarian proposal.
