Brussels applies double standards – Trocsanyi

The European Commission is applying double standards towards Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic with the infringement procedures, Hungarian Minister of Justice Laszlo Trocsanyi told MTI on Saturday, after meeting his Polish counterpart, Zbigniew Ziobro.

Trocsanyi was reacting to the Commission’s announcement on Thursday that the infringement proceedings launched against Hungary for rejecting the refugee quotas are moving forward into their court stage.

The minister stressed that Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic will fight against the mandatory quota system on the European Court of Justice too, adding that the European Council’s President, Donald Tusk deemed the relocation scheme ineffective. Trocsanyi noted that the vast majority of EU member states didn’t fulfil their quota, so the Commission is launching a political attack against three Visegrad states.

State Secretary of the Justice Ministry Pal Völner told Hungarian news agency MTI that the infringement procedures against Hungary – regarding the higher education law, the NGO transparency law and the above mentioned quota issue – are questioning the country’s sovereignty. He stressed that these proceedings are politically motivated, and all three are strongly connected to George Soros.
