Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov awarded the director of the Hungarian National Theatre Attila Vidnyanszky the Medal of Pushkin at a ceremony in Moscow on Saturday, the Day of People’s Unity, a Russian national holiday, news agency Tass said.
Lavrov acknowledged Vidnyanszky’s efforts to promote Russian literature and Russian cultural heritage to a Hungarian audience.
“We also appreciate your efforts in restoring the cooperation between Russian and Hungarian theaters,”
– he added.
Lavrov also presented the medal, awarded for achievements in developments of friendship and cooperation between peoples, to recipients from Pakistan, Lithuania and Vietnam. Vidnyanszky was earlier awarded the Kossuth Prize, Hungary’s highest state honour for artists, and the Jaszai Mari Prize, the state’s award for theatre professionals.
