Fidesz increases support, Jobbik second strongest

The popularity of the opposition Socialists is at a 25-year record low among decided voters, while ruling Fidesz and green opposition LMP have improved their support, a representative poll prepared by Median between September 15 and 20 shows, news portal hvg.hu said on Wednesday.

For the first time in 25 years, support for the Socialists was below 10 percent at 9 percent among decided voters and 7 percent among all voters, hvg.hu said.

Fidesz has increased its support compared to the previous poll prepared in June, standing at 36 percent among all voters and 55 percent among decided voters.

Support for the biggest opposition party, Jobbik remained almost unchanged from June at 12 percent among all voters and dropped from 21 percent to 16 percent among decided voters. Jobbik has roughly twice as many supporters as the socialists.

LMP has managed to increase its support to 7 percent among decided voters and 5 percent among all voters. Meanwhile, the popularity of the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) dropped to 3 percent among all voters and 5 percent among decided voters.

Median said only 52 percent of the people interviewed said they would certainly cast their vote if the elections were held in the near future, which is 4 percentage points more than in June.

A total of 46 percent said they were satisfied with the performance of the Orban government and 43 percent said they would like the current government to stay in power. Some 49 percent said they would like to see a change in government but 52 percent said they believed the opposition had less than a medium chance of winning an election.
